Linley Logan Seneca Nation Deer Clan Linley was born in 1962 and grew up at Seneca Tonawanda Reservation in western NY. Today, he resides in Bremerton, Washington where he is actively involved with numerous arts organizations. He expresses in the 2-dimensional mediums of printmaking, pen and ink, pencil, charcoal, pastels, and painting and the 3-dimensional mediums of antler, bone, clay, beadwork, silverwork, and found object sculpture. Linley earned an AFA in Two Dimensional Arts, and an AFA in Three Dimensional Arts, and engaged Museum Studies in 1985 from the Institute of American Indian Arts (Santa Fe, New Mexico). That same year, he invested 2-weeks in the study of ceramics at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts (Deer Isle, Maine). Linley received a BFA in Industrial Design from the Rochester Institute of Technology in 1987. In 2014 and 2018, he participated in sessions at Pilchuck Glass School (Stanwood, WA). Recognized equally as a curator, artist, and knowledgeable cultural consultant, Linley's accomplishments include Iroquois Art in the Age of Casinos (IIM, 1995), Where We Stand: Contemporary Haudenosaunee Art (Fenimore Art Museum, Cooperstown, NY, 1997) and curation of over 100 other exhibitions. He has participated in several projects with the National Museum of the American Indian, Smithsonian Institution. Between 1993 - 1996 these include authoring several publications including Native American Dance, Ceremonies and Social Dance Traditions; an article in the program catalog for the Festival of American Folklife presented by the Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage; and organizing and presenting a series of Haudenosaunee social dance programs. Linley attended several international forums, many by invitation. They include the Kokiri Putahi (2014); the International Indigenous Arts Exchange (Guatemala, 2011); the Te Tihi International Gathering of Indigenous Visual Arts hosted by the Maori people (Roturura, New Zealand, 2010); the International Gathering of Indigenous Visual Arts (Hawaii, 2007) and other events.
